Hijacking Jesus (John 12:12-19)

In 1961, a notable aircraft hijacking in history

took place in the skies over Lisbon, Portugal. Six hijackers

overpowered the flight crew and took control of the plane. Then, in

what was surely one of the most terrifying acts in history, the

hijackers dropped anti-government propaganda leaflets onto the

streets of Lisbon. If you're like me, you think: "Huh? That's it?

How times have changed..." It's pretty easy to define a hijacking.

Someone takes a vehicle that is tasked with a certain purpose and

redirects it toward another purpose. That's what happens with Jesus

in John 12. In verses 12-19, we see Jesus on a purposeful endeavor

to Jerusalem. Jesus, in perfect harmony with the Father, is on a

journey to bring glory to God. But the people around Him aren't

concerned about His journey. They don't care where He's going. They

want to hijack Jesus and force His life to serve their own

purposes. That kind of hijacking is still happening today. This

Sunday, I hope that we can come together and prevent a catastrophe.

I hope that we can prevent the "Hijacking of Jesus." P.

Dave
