It was late on a wintery night in central Iowa. My
family and I were packed into the mini-van, trying to get home. We
didn't have that far to go, but the snow was falling in sheets. It
was one of the snows that seems to blow horizontally. I wondered
how it could ever hit the ground. The headlights tried, in vain, to
light up the road in front of me. But all that they illuminated was
more snow. We were slowly inching our way home. I'd travelled these
roads thousands of times, but that the snow was so thick it was
difficult to figure out where I was. Occasionally, the snow let up
enough where I caught a glimpse of the road signs. But most of them
were plastered with white from the driving horizontal blizzard. For
a while, I felt lost in my own town. The book of Ruth is about sign
posts. Its about seeing signs of God's faithful love, when the
driving snows of life seem to cover them up. Ruth is about God's
grace and sovereignty. This Sunday, we're wrapping up our series in
Ruth. And we're going to see that God has hope for us in the midst
of the storm. It really will be a great time together. As always, I
can't wait to see you on Sunday. P.Dave
