This Sunday is the annual business meeting. On this
occasion, every year, we have the chance to evaluate where we've
been and where we're going as a church. James 1:19-27 offers us a
great opportunity to do just this. Not only does James say, "Be
slow to become angry," he also says, "Religion that God our Father
accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and
widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by
the world." What does anger have to with caring for orphans and
widows? Of course, I'm not going to tell you the answer right now.
You have to come Sunday morning. But the answer gives us a great
picture of where we are as a church and where we want to go in the
coming year. This Sunday, I can't wait to see how God encourages us
and challenges us to be the church that he wants us to be. See you
then! P.Dave
