I have always liked the TV show "24." It was a
high-octain series about terrorism and counter-terrorism on U.S.
soil. I liked the action, the drama, and the character development.
I liked that, at the end of the day, Jack Bauer always won. But
there is one thing I didn't like: I do not like the fact that Jack
Bauer continually ran around saying, "I promise." He would say, "I
promise I'll be back for you," or "I'll save you, I promise!" It
bugs me, because he does not really know if he can make good on his
promise. Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn't. It is important
to note that when God makes a promise, He is not like Jack Bauer.
God's promise is not based on a trifle of hope. God's promise is
based on His character. God's promise is based on His sovereignty.
When God makes a promise, He WILL make good on that promise. Haggai
2 deals with the God of the promise. God promises to be with His
people. And He points backward to the covenant that He made with
his people. God is always faithful to His promises. Maybe you have
forgotten that little truth. Maybe you have forgotten about God's
promises. Maybe you have given up on His faithfulness. If so, you
need to be here Sunday to renew your intimate relationship with the
God who keeps His promises! I can't wait to see you Sunday!
